Chap. 290.—An ACT to Incorporate the Town of Lovingston, in the County
of Nelson.
Approved March 31, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the town of
Lovingston, in the county of Nelson, as the same has been
heretofore laid off into lots, streets, and alleys, and as the same
may hereafter be laid off into lots, streets, and alleys, shall be
and the same is hereby made a town corporate, by the name
of The Town of Lovingston; and by that name shall have and
exercise the powers conferred upon towns by the fifty-fourth
chapter of the Code of Virginia of eighteen hundred and sixty,
and of all laws now in force and which may hereafter pass for
the government of towns containing less than five thousand
inhabitants.
2. The officers of said town shall consist of five trustees, to
wit: A. G. Pamplin, John H. McCue, O. Loving, George Ste-
vens, and S. H. Loving, who shall constitute the mayor and
council of said town, any three of whom shall be a board for
the transaction of business. The mayor and council shall have
power to appoint a sergeant, and such other officers as may be
necessary, together with a police force for the preservation of
order; who shall remain in office until their successors shall be
elected and qualified according to law.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
