Chap. 275.—An ACT to Incorporate the Norfolk and Princess Anne Rail-
road Company.
Approved March 30, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful to open books of subscription at the city of Norfolk,
under the direction of George P. Gordon, John A. Nelson, L.
L. Brickhouse, James Y. Leigh, Richard Phelps, and Andrew
S. Martin, or any three of them, and at such other place or
places as a majority of the commissioners above named may
appoint, for the purpose of receiving subscriptions to an amount
not less than twenty thousand, nor more than one hundred
thousand dollars, in shares of fifty dollars each, to constitute
the capital stock of a company, to be called The Norfolk and
Princess Anne Railroad Company, for the purpose of con-
structing a railroad from the northern extremity of Chapel
Street, at city limits, to the lands of George P. Gordon, on
Little creek, in Princess Anne county.
2. The said company shall have the right to hold and em-
ploy such machinery and other appliances as their business
may require; and they are hereby invested with all the rights,
powers, and privileges conferred, and subject to all the rules,
restrictions, and regulations imposed, upon bodies politic and
corporate, by the laws of Virginia, as far as the same are ap-
plicable to and not inconsistent with this act.
3. Be it also enacted, That the said Norfolk and Princess
Anne railroad company may borrow money on its bonds or
other evidences of debt, bearing interest not exceeding the
rate allowed by law; which bonds may be secured by a pledge
of the income and property of said company.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
