Chap. 155.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact an Act Passed January 10.
1866, Entitled an Act Releasing the State’s Interest in the Fredericks-
burg and Gordonsville Railroad on Certain Conditions.
In Force March 21, 1871.
Whereas, the rights and privileges granted by the act en-
titled an act releasing the state’s interest in the Fredericksburg
and Gordonsville railroad on certain conditions, passed January
tenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, have been forfeited by
the failure to complete the said railroad within the time re-
quired by the said act:
“§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the presi-
dent and directors, to wit: Montgomery Slaughter, president,
and Wm. T Hart, John E. Tackett, John L. Stansbury, Wm.
M. Smith, and S. B. Dutcher, directors of the Fredericksburg
and Gordonsville railroad company, or a majority of them, are
hereby authorized and empowered to contract with any re-
sponsible person or persons for the completion of said road
within three years from the first day of January, eighteen
hundred and seventy-one; and in the event of such contract
being made with any such person or persons, then the said
president and directors are hereby authorized and empowered
to sell the state’s interest in said road to such person or per-
sons on suck terms as a majority of the private stockholders
may agree to dispose of their interest in said road. But this
sale is authorized upon condition that the said road is to be
completed within the period of three years from the first of
January, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, and also upon
condition that the state is released from the deferred part of
her subscription to said road now unpaid.”
