Chap. 121.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact Section 89, Chapter 184 of the
Code of Virginia (edition of 1860), as Amended, Concerning the Allow-
ances of Certain Officers.
Approved March 14, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
thirty-nine of chapter one hundred and eighty-four of the
Code of Virginia, as amended by acts passed February twenty-
third, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, and December twentieth,
eighteen hundred and sixty-six, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
“§ 39. There shall be chargeable to each county or corpora-
tion such sum as the court thereof may allow to its clerk or to
the sheriff or sergeant attending it, for services rendered to
the said county or corporation: provided, that no such allow-
ance shall be made under this section for services rendered by
the said officers in criminal prosecutions on behalf of the com-
monwealth.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
