Chap. 111.—An ACT to Authorize the County of Washington to Borrow
Money to Redeem and Pay Off Railroad and Courthouse Bonds Hereto-
fore Issued by the County, and Falling Due in the Year 1872.
Approved March 6, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of Washington county be and they
are hereby authorized and empowered, at any meeting at
which a majority of said supervisors shall be present, to issue
bonds in the name of the county of Washington for a sum not
exceeding, in the aggregate, thirty thousand dollars, and to
sell the same, and with the proceeds of sale to redeem and pay
off the bonds heretofore issued by the county of Washington,
on account of subscription to railroad and for the purpose of
rebuilding their courthouse, and falling due in the yeareighteen
hundred and seventy-two; or, instead of selling the bonds

issued in pursuance of this act, to exchange the same for the
bonds of said county falling due as aforesaid.
2. That the bonds issued in pursuance of this act shall not
be sold or exchanged at less than par, and shall be made paya-
ble within not less than two, nor more than ten years from
the date thereof, and shall bear interest, payable annually, at a

the president of the said board of supervisors, be attested by
the clerk of the county court of Washington, and have the
seal of the said court affixed thereto.
3. That the debts contracted and evidenced by said bonds
shall be levied for by the said board of supervisors, upon such
subjects of taxation as are or may be liable by law for the
county levy and that the faith of the said county is pledged
‘for the punctual payments of the principal and interest of said
bonds, when the same shall become due.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
