Chap. 97.—An ACT to amend Section Four, Chapter One Hundred and
Eight, Code of Virginia, relating to Marriages.
Approved May 19, 1870.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section four
of chapter one hundred and eight of the Code of Virginia
(edition of eighteen hundred and sixty), be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
“§ 4. When a minister of any religious denomination shall,
before the court of any county or corporation in this state,
produce proof of his ordination, and of his being in regular
communion with the religious society of which he is reputed
a member, and give bond in the penalty of fifteen hundred
dollars, such court may make an order authorizing him to cele-
brate the rites of marriage.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
