Chap. 70.—An ACT to incorporate the Winchester and Strasburg Rail-
road Company,
Passed April 23, 1867,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful to open books of subscription for the capi-
tal ‘stock of a company to be incorporated by the name of
The Winchester and Strasburg Railroad Company, for the
purpose of constructing a railroad from the town of Win-
chester, in the county of Frederick, to the town of Stras-
burg, in the county of Shenandoah, and with authority to
connect such railroad with the Winchester and Potomac rail-
road and the Manassas gap railroad.
2, The following persons are hereby appointed commis-
sioners to receive such subscriptions, that is to say: H. M.
Brent, James B. Taylor, Wm. L. Bent, J. H. Sherrard, Lewis
P. Hartman, M. G. Harman, to open books and receive sub-
scriptions at the said town of Winchester; and George A.
Hupp, Ovid Funk, Daniel Stickley, John Pirkey and George
F. Hupp, to open books and receive subscriptions at the said
town of Strasburg; and a majority of the commissioners ap-
pointed for each place may act. ‘The commissioners appointed
tor Winchester, or a majority of them, may, in person or by
an agent or agents appointed by them, open books and re-
ceive such subscriptions which may be made by any indi-
vidnals or corporations at any place or places out of this state.
3. The capital stock of said company shall be not less than
three hundred thousand dollars nor more than six hundred
thousand dollars, divided into shares of one hundred dollars
each. Whenever the sail first mentioned amount of such
capital stock shall be subscribed, the subscribers shall be in-
corporated by the name and for the purpose mentioned in
the first section of this act, subject to the provisions of the
Code of Virginia applicable to such corporations.
4. The said company may, by demising its road, works
and property, or by any other contract, procure or permit
the whole or any part of the transportation and business of
Its road to be done by any other railroad company, at the ex-
clusive expense and risk and for the exclusive benetit of such
company, or upon such other terms as the two companies
May agree upon, or may hire rolling stock trom any other
railroad company.
This act shall take effect as soon as the Winchester and
Potomac railroad company, by its president and directors, or
in general mecting of stockholders, shall consent thereto.
