Chap. 16.—An ACT to prevent Drunkenness and Disorder at Public Elec-
tions.
Passed March 15, 1867.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
unlawful, in his county-or corporation, for any person, licensed
or unlicensed, to sell, by wholesale or retail, or to give away,
Wine, ardent spirits, malt liquors, cider, or any mixture of
any of them, on the day on which any election shall be held
In said county or corporation, for federal, state, county or
corporation officers, or members of a conventiom called by
authority of the state or of the United States.
2. It shall be the duty of every justice, sheriff, constable
and special policeman, if he knows, or has cause to suspect
that any person intends to commit or has committed such
offence, to apprehend and hold him for prosecution and pun-
lishment according to law.
3. Every person offending against this act shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof, shall be
ined ina sum not less than twenty and not exceeding one
hundred dollars, and may be confined in jail for a period not
exceeding two’ months.
