CHAPTER 1
An act to provide for the amendment of the Third
Article of the Constitution.
Passed June 21st, 1865.
Src. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Virginia, That the Governor of this Commonwealth is:
hereby authorized to submit to the qualified voters of this |
State, at the next election for members of Congress and of;
the General Assgmbly, the question: ‘Shall the next!
General Assembly be clothed with power to alter or amend 1
the third article of the Constitution? and if a majority of
the votes so cast shall be in favor of vesting such power in
the General Assembly, the Governor shall communicate the
result to that body at its next session: Provided, however, :
that the Governor shall give at least thirty days’ notice of,
the submission of said question, and shall at the same time
prescribe the.mode and manner of taking the vote thereon.
