Chap. 86.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 9 of chapter 311
of the, Acts of 1877-78, in zelation to the regulation of the sale of
poisons.
Approved April 2, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section nine, of chapter three hundred and eleven of the Acts
of Asscmbly of eizhtcen bundred and seventy-seven and sev-
nty-eight, m relation to the regulation of the sale of poisons,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
$9, Every apothecary, druggist, merchant, or any other per-
son who sells or delivers any arsenic, prussic acid, gum opium,
paris green, tincture of opium, oil of bitter almonds, tincture
of belladonna, corrosive sublimate, or anv poisonous alkaloids,
shall have the word “poison” written or printed on the label
thereof; aud shall note in a book to he kept by such person
for thal purpose, whenever he seils oil of bitter almonds,
strychnine, prussic acid, and arsenic, to whom last-mentioned
poisons were delivered, the date of celivery, and the kind and
amount of such poisons so delivered, and shail keep such books
open for inspection. livery apothecary. Grugeist, or other per-
son, who selis or delivers any poison or poisonous substance,
shall have the lenglish name of such poison or poisonous sub-
stance piainly written or printed upon a label attached toe the
vial, box, or parcel containing the same. Any person viclating
the provisions of this scet.on, shall, on conviction, be fined not
less than iwenty nor more than one hundred dollars: provided
that the provisions of this section shall not apply to the pre-
scriptions of regular practicing physicians, nor to the dealings
of one druggist with another.
