CHAP. 44.—An ACT to incorporate the West End Beneficial and
social Society of the city of Richmond.
Approved March 31, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That John §.
Rady, Thomas Oliver, F. E. Tholl, N. J. Tyler, Leopold Spies,
M.S. Blount, Joseph Blount, Joseph Kaufman, and such other
persons as are now or may hereafter become members of the
society, be and hereby made a body politic and corporate by
the name and style of the West End Beneficial and Social So-
ciety of the city of Richmond, the object of which shall be to
promote social intercourse and dispense charity, and by that
name shall have perpetual succession and a common seal; may
contract and be contracted with, sue and be sued, with power
to purchase, receive and hold to them and their successors for-
ever, any lands not exceeding one acre in amount, goods and
chattels, or to receive such property by gift, bequest or other-
wise, for beneiicial and social purposes of such society. They
shall also have the power to rent, sell or loan for the use and
benefit of the said society, any of the property so acquired:
provided, however, that the lands, goods and chattels so author-
ized to be held, shall not exceed in amount and value five thou-
sand dollars. ,
2. That the members of said society, or such members thereof
as they shall determine to be a quorum for such purpose, shall
have power to make such constitution, by-laws and regulations
for the government of said society and its officers, and the
execution of its objects, not inconsistent with the laws of this
state, or of the United States, as they may think proper; and
shall have power to require such fees, fines and contributions
from its members, as they shall deem proper for the purposes
of said society.
3. The officers of said society shall for the first year be
John 8S. Rady, president ; Thomas Oliver, vice-president; F. E.
Tholl, secretary; N. J. Tyler, assistant secretary; Leopold
Spies, treasurer; and M.S. Blount, sergeant-at-arms.
| 4, This act shall be in force from its passage, and shall be sub-
ject to modification, amendment or repeal, at the pleasure of the
general assembly.
