CHAP. 33.—An ACT to amend the third section of an act approved
March 12, 1878, entitled an act to previde for keeping the paupers in
the counties of Scott, Lee, Grayson, Cirvoll, Floyd, Goochland, Bed-
ford, Mathews, Roekbridge and Aanherst, and to repeal an act Ape
proved March '29, 1877, for heeping the panpers in the counties of
Seott, Lee and Grayson.

1. Be it enacted by the eeneral assembly, That the third sec-
tion of the act approved March the twelfth, eighteen hundred
and seventy-eight, entitled an act to provide for keeping the
paupers in the counties of Scott, Lee, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd,
Goochland, Bedford, Mathews, Rockbridge and Amherst, and
to repeal an act approved March twenty-ninth, cighteen bun-
dred and seventy-seven, for keeping the paupers in the counties
of Scott, Lee and Grayson, be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
3. The bidder whose bid 1s so accepted shall be designated
by the name of the superintendent of the poor, and shall “be ap-
pointed by the judge of the county court to hold office for the
term of four years, and shall be subject to all the provisions of
chapter fifty-one, Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three,
and acts amendatory thereof applicable to superintendents of
the poor, in so far as the same is not inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this act; but the provisions of section three of an
act entitled an act to provide for the election and qualification
of county officers, approved March the eighth, eighteen hun-
dred and seventy-five, shall not be applicable to the said coun-
ties of Scott, Lee, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd, Goochland, Bed-
ford, Mathews, Rockbridge and Amherst, or such of them as
may adopt the provisions of this act, so far as the same applies
to superintendents of the poor.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
