CHAP. 299.—An ACT to incorporate the: White Rock Railroad
Company.
Approved March 9, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
George G. Lobdell, and such other persons as may hereafter be
associated with him, shall be and are hereby incorporated and
made a body politic and corporate by the name and style of
The White Rock Railroad Company, for the purpose of laying
out, constructing and equipping a road to be operated by steam
from a point at or near the White Rock furnace, in the county
of Smyth, Virginia, through the counties of Smyth and Wythe,
Virginia, or either of them, to some point on the Atlantic, Mis-
sissippi and Ohio railroad between Crockett’s depot, in Wythe
county, and Atkins’ switch, in Smyth county, with power to
extend the same south from the point of beginning of said
road to the North Carolina line through the counties of Gray-
son and Smyth, or either of them; and the said company is
hereby invested with all the rights, powers and privileges con-
ferred and made subject to all the requirements, regulations
and restrictions imposed by the provisions contained in the
Code of Virginia of the year eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, so far as applicable to the business purposes of. said
company and not in conflict with the provisions of this act.
2. The capital stock of said company shall not be less than
five thousand dollars nor more than two hundred thousand
dollars, to be divided into shares of one hundred dollars each;
and for raising subscription to the stock of said company,
said George G. Lobdell, and others appointed by him prior to
the organization of said company, shall be authorized to exer-
cise and perform all the powers and duties conferred and im-
posed by said Code on commissioners generally, to receive
subscription to the stock of such company, and at any place
or places in or out of the state of Virginia that he or they may
select.
3. Said company shall have the right to purchase and hold
any lands necessary for the erection of depots and shops for
machinery along and near to the route of said road, and may
be organized at any time within three years from the passage
of this act.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
