CHAP. 274.—An ACT for the protection of fish in the waters of th
Roanoke and its tributaries east of the Blue Ridge.
Approved March 9, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall no
be lawful for any person to build any dam across the Roanoke
river or its tributaries east of the Blue Ridge for the purpose
of catching fish, without leaving at least one-third of said streams
unobstructed, so as to admit the free passage of fish. The vio.
lation of said law by any person shall be considered a misde-.
meanor, and he shall be liable to be subjected to a fine nof
exceeding fifty dollars for each offence, to be recovered before
any justice of the peace for the county in which such violation
may occur.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
