CHAP. 242.—An ACT to provide for the performance of the duties of
the Secretary of the Commonwealth during his necessary absence.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That whenever it goy
shall be necessary for the secretary of the commonwealth to ®utl
be absent from his office his duties shall be performed by his toa
assistant clerk, but when such absence is to be for more than {ry
one day at a time notice thereof shall be given to the governor,
who may thereupon authorize the duties of the secretary of the
commonwealth to be performed during his absence by the assist.
