CHAP. 230.—An ACT to incorporate the Grand Division Junior
Sons of Temperance of Virginia.
Approved March 8, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
W. H. L. Combs, R. B. Evans, George E. Prichett, E. D.
Bland, Simuel Logan, T. H. Jackson, William F. Brown, and
James P. Evans, and all others who are now or may hereafter
pecome associated with them, be and they are hereby constitu-
ed a body politic and corporate by the name and style of The
Grand Division Junior of the Sons of Temperance of Virginia,
and by that name may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
have perpetual succession and a common seal, and in all respects
shall be invested with the rights and privileges conferred, and
subject to the restrictions and regulations prescribed for cor-
porations by the general laws so far as the same are applicable
to this corporation and not inconsistent with this act. The said
corporation may take, by purchase, gift, devise or bequest, and
hold real and personal estate, and lease, rent, sell, or otherwise
dispose of the same in such manner as may seem most advan-
tageous: provided, it shall not hold real and personal estate to
exceed in value twenty thousand ($20,000) dollars.
2. The objects of this order shall be the spreading of the
cause of temperance, maintenance of its sick and destitute,
and the burial of its dead.
3. The said corporation may institute subordinate divisions
of the sons of temperance in the state of Virginia in any county
or corporation in this commonwealth, and shall have power to
make and adopt a constitution and by-laws and rules and regu-
lations for the admission and expulsion of members and for
their government, the election of officers and to define their
duties, and for the safe-keeping and protection of its property
and funds, provided the same be not inconsistent with the laws
of Virginia.
4. The legislature reserves to itself the right to modify or
repeal this act at pleasure.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
