CHAP. 227.—An ACT to incorporate the Lone Star Society.
) Approved March 8, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Robert Nor-
ton, D. M. Norton, Beverly Cobbs, William O. Allen, Samuel
Filds, John H. Dabney, John Smith, Philip A. Todd, Horris
Goodwin, and William Thomas, and such others as may be
associated with them, be and they are hereby constituted a
body politic and corporate by the name and style of The
Lone Star Society, and by that name may sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, and do all and every act necessary to
enjoy the powers conferred by this charter in each and every
county in this commonwealth in which said society establishes
a lodge. .
2. The objects of the said society shall be to aid its sick and
bury its deceased members. |
3. The society may hold any real or personal estate, pro-
vided the real estate does not exceed one thousand acres of
land, and the personal estate does not exceed in value the sum
of ten thousand dollars.
4. The said society shall have the power and authority to
make and adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules and regula-
tions for the admission and expulsion of its members and their
government, and the election of its officers, and to define their
duties, and for the safe-keeping and disbursement of its funds,
and from time to time to alter, amend or repeal such constitu-
tion, by-laws, rules and regulations: provided, that the same
be not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the United
States or the state of Virginia, and shall be subject to amend-
ment, alteration or modification at the pleasure of the general
assembly.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
