CHAP. 208.—An ACT to incorporate the Mineral and Lumber Rail-
‘way Company.
Approved March 6, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That D. E. Porter, ¢
John T. Jones, G. M. Wilson, W. L. Porter, George H. Jewett, ¢
John W. Jewett, and Willis J. Dance, or any five of them, are s
hereby authorized to open books of subscription to the capital
stock of the Mineral and Lumber railway company at Clover
Hill, in the county of Chesterfield ; and whenever fifteen thou.
sand dollars of the steck of said company shall have been
subseribed by persons or corporations, and the percentage
required by law shall have been paid on such subscriptions,
the subscribers, or a majority of them, may organize the com:
pany, and thereupon they and such persons or corporations as
may be lawfully associated with them, their successors and
assigns, shall be a body corporate, under the name and style of
The Mineral and Lumber Railway Comnany, with authority to
build and operate a railroad from Clover Hill through any
mineral and timber country on the south side of James river
and the east side of the Blue Ridve mountains to the town of
Hardwicksville, in the county of Buckingham, with all the
powers and privileges and subject to all the provisions of the
Code of Virginia respecting sueh eorporations
2. The said Mineral and Lumber railway company shall also
have authority to engage in the mining of coal and the manu-
facture of iron at any point on the line of its road, or in the
county adjacent thereto.
3. The capital stock of said company shall not be less than
twenty-five thousand dollars, nor more than two hundred thou-
sand dollars, unless the company shall, by a two-thirds vote,
extend the same to five hundred thousand dollars, to be
divided into shares of one hundred dollars each.
4, It shall be lawful for said Mineral and Lumber railway
company to borrow money at a rate of interest not exceeding
six per centum per annum, and to secure the same by mort-
gage or deed of trust on its property.
5. The construction of said railroad shall be commenced
within two years, and completed within five years.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
