CHAP. 198.—An ACT to confirm the donation by the town of Char-
lottesville to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company, and to
validate the bonds which have been or may be issued for the purpose.
Approved February 25, 1880.
Whereas the town of Charlottesville did, in pursuance of
authority vested in it by the council and qualified voters of said
town in the manner prescribed by the twenty-third section of
the charter of said town, approved twenty-eighth of March,
eighteen hundred and seventy-one, make its bonds amounting
to fifteen thousand dollars, dated the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and seventy-five, and did either actually use,
or proposes to use the same, or a part thereof, or the amount
borrowed upon them in making a donation of the five thousand
dollars, and certain real estate acquired for the purpose, to the
Chesapeake and Ohio railroad company in consideration of the
erection by said company on said land of its round-house (or
rather a segment thereof) and shops; and whereas the town of
Charlottesville has conveyed the real estate aforesaid, subject
to a certain provision for reverter agreed upon, to the Chesa-
peake and Ohio railway company, successor to the Chesapeake
and Ohio railroad company, to be used by it for its round-
house and shops and sidings; and whereas doubts have been
suggested as to the right of the corporate authorities of said
town to make said donation and conveyance, and to issue the
bonds aforesaid ; now, therefore, for the purpose of removing
such doubts,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
said donation and conveyance be ratified and confirmed, and
that all bonds which have heen or may be issued for the pur-
pose aforesaid shall be valid and binding obligations upon
said town. :
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
