Chap. 467.—An ACT to authorize the board of st ipervisors of Smyth county to
increase the county levy for road purposes.
Approved February 23, 1898.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the board
of supervisors of Smyth county shall annually levy along with the
county levy a tax upon the property, real and personal, assessed for
taxation in the several magisterial districts of said county, which shall
be applied to the working, keeping in order and repairing the public
roads and bridges in such districts; and the compensation of the sur-
veyors provided for by section nine hundred and seventy-seven and nine
hundred and seventy-three of the code of Virginia. Such tax shall be
not less than five nor more than thirty cents upon every one hundred
dollars in value of such property, and the same shall be collected, ac-
counted for and paid out on the warrant of the board as if it was a
county levy, except that the fund collected from each magisterial district
shall be kept separate by the county treasurer, and a different rate of
tax may be prescribed for districts in the same county.
The amount collected in each district shall be expended therein.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict with this act are hereby re-
pealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
