Chap. 823.—An ACT to release the sureties of R. T. Copenhaver, late treas-
urer of Smyth county, from the payment of interest on a balance due the
commonwealth of Virginia by said late treasurer for the years 1879 and 1881.

Whereas R. T. Copenhaver, late treasurer of Smyth county, is due
the commonwealth of Virginia on the revenue for eighteen hundred
and seventy-nine the sum of one hundred and thirty dollars and
seventy-seven cents, and for licenses for the year eighteen hundred
and eighty-one the sum of one hundred and ninety-two dollara and
2ighty-eight cents, making a total of three hundred and twenty-
three dollars and sixty-five cents; and
Whereas by some oversight no demand was made on said Copen-
haver for the said balance until recently, when suit was instituted
as provided by law against him and his sureties in the circuit court
for the city of Richmond; and
Whereas the said Copenhaver has become insolvent, and all of
his sureties except one are either dead or insolvent:
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That his
sureties be, and they are hereby, released from the payment of in-
terest on the said sum of three hundred and twenty-three dollars
and sixty-five cents due the commonwealth: provided the said prin-
cipal sum, with all costs incurred in the circuit court for the city of
Richmond, be paid to the auditor within the period of sixty days
from the passage of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
