Chap. 778.—An ACT to protect partridges in the counties of Gloucester and
Mathews.
Approved March 7, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful for any person to hunt, kill or capture, or offer for sale
or buy, in Gloucester or Mathews county, any partridges between
the first day of January and the first day of November in any year.
2. It shall be unlawful for any person at any time to take or de-
stroy the eggs of the birds mentioned in this act, or to catch them
with nets or traps.
3. Any person violating any of the provisions of this act shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be punished by a fine of not less
than ten dollars or imprisonment in jail not exceeding thirty days,
or both. }
4, In any prosecution of a person for violating this act, in hunt-
ing, killing or capturing partridges, or in catching them in nets or
traps, proof of the possession by such person of any such bird shall
be prima facie evidence of his guilt.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
