Chap. 721.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia water and sewerage purifica-
tion company.
Approved March 5, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Sam-
uel Josephs, Lemuel H. Woddrop, David Peoples, John J. Deery,
George W. Delano, Gracie §. Roberts and F. A. Reed, and their asso-
ciates and successors, be, and are hereby, created and constituted a
body politic and corporate by the name and style of the Virginia
water and sewerage purification company, for the purpose of estab-
lishing, building, constructing, maintaining and operating systems
of water and sewerage purification and systems of sewers, pipes
and conduits suitable, necessary and proper for sewerage in the
towns and cities in the commonwealth of Virginia, in accordance
with the provisions hereinafter contained and set forth, and by that
name and style to have perpetual succession; may sue and be sued,
contract and be contracted with, plead and be impleaded, and have
a common seal and change the same at pleasure, and shall have
all the rights and privileges of a corporation, and be subject to
all the rules, regulations and restrictions imposed by the code of
Virginia relating to joint stock companies, so far as they are now
applicable to and not inconsistent with the provisions of this act.
2. That the said company shall have the right and power to con-
tract with the duly constituted corporate authorities of any city or
town within the commonwealth of Virginia to establish, build and
construct, maintain and operate a system of water and sewerage
purification, or a system of sewers, pipes and conduits necessary and
proper for the purification of the water supply or the sewerage of any
such town orcity so contracting with the said company,and may under
any such contract establish, build, construct, maintain and operate
a system of water and sewerage purification, or a system of sewers,
pipes and conduits suitable, necessary and proper for the purifica-
tion of the water supply and sewerage of any such town or city so
contracting with the said company for that purpose, and shall have
the right to open the streets of any such town or city under co
as aforesaid with its corporate authorities, for the purpose of
ducing any such system of water and sewerage purification, c

3. Wherever the said company shall introduce, establisk
maintain any system of water and sewerage purification or sew
