Chap. 681.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of water commis-
sioners of the city of Norfolk, Virginia, to collect taxes upon certain road-
ways in Princess Anne county, Virginia.
Approved March 6, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of water commissioners of Norfolk city are hereby empowered
and authorized to establish a toll-gate and to collect tolls for the use of
the road leading from the pumping station of the Norfolk city water-
works, at Moore’s bridges, in the county of Princess Anne, to the
pumping station at Lake Lawson, with the right to continue the same
to Nimmo’s bridges in said county.
2. The tolls charged for the use of said road shall not be greater
than those authorized to be charged by the Norfolk and Princess
Anne turnpike company or the Norfolk and Broad Creek turnpike
company.
3. The said board shall also have the right to collect toll on so
much of the public road leading from said pumping station at
Moore’s bridges as connects with the road constructed by it to its
pumping station at Lake Lawson, and also use so much of the pub-
lic road as extends from said Lake Lawson to Nimmo’s bridges.
4. It shall be the duty of said board to keep in order and repair
so much of said public roads for the useof which toll is hereinbefore
authorized to be collected by it.
5. The said board is hereby authorized and empowered to trans-
fer to any person or persons the right to construct and repair the
said road or roads, and in consideration thereof to collect the tolls
hereby authorized to be collected by it, subject to such terms and
conditions as it may seem fit to impose for the public good and con-
venience.
6. The said board shall at any time be authorized to discontinue
the collection of said tolls on said road, upon which the obligation
and duty to repair said road shal! cease, and during the continuance
of the right to collect the same the duty of the county to appro-
priate or use any of its revenue to the maintenance and repair of
any of the said roads shall] be suspended.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
