Chap. 653.—An ACT for the relief of John R. Lawrence, of Hanover county.
Approved March 5, 1894.
Whereas John R. Lawrence, of Hanover county, a member of com-
pany G, fourth regiment of Virginia cavalry, army of northern Vir-
ginia, while in the discharge of his duty as a soldier of Virginia in
the war batween the states, and while engaged in the battle of Wil-

liamsburg, on May fourth, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, received
a gunshot wound which permanently disabled him; and whereas the
said John R. Lawrence has recently been paralyzed so that his disa-
bility is as fatal as if he had lost a leg or an arm; and whereas he
is in all other respects entitled to the benefits of the act of assembly
approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, providing
commutation to soldiers, sailors and marines of Virginia disabled
in said war; and it further appearing that the said John R. Law-
rence is now bed-ridden and unable to appear before the county
court of Hanover county: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby, directed to enter
the name of said John R. Lawrence in the list as prescribed and desig-
nated in the act approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and eighty-
eight, for those who lost a leg or an arm from wounds actually re-
ceived while in service, and under any similar act that may be
passed, and pay to the said John R. Lawrence the same commutation
that is paid to other soldiers who lost a leg or arm from wounds
received in the service, and come under the provisions of that act or
similar acts.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
