Chap. 652.—An ACT for the relief of R. A. Hood, a disabled Confederate soldier.
Approved March 5, 1894.
Whereas R. A. Hood, a disabled Confederate soldier, residing in
Lunenburg county, by reason of a gunshot wound of the hand re-
ceived in the late war between the states, applied for a pension for
injury equivalent to loss of arm and was rejected by the judge of
Lunenburg county court because the said arm or hand had not been
amputated, and as a result, while disabled for manual labor and
very destitute, he receives no pension at all, and it appears from the
testimony of physicians and numerous citizens of his county that
he ig disabled and entitled to a pension: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public acconnts is directed to enroll the said R. A. Hood
on the pension rolls of Virginia as entitled to a pension provided by
laws of this state to those soldiers who lost an arm in the late war
between the states, or who sustained an injury equivalent thereto:
provided, however, that before the auditor shall be authorized to
place the name of said R. A. Hood on such list the said Hood shall
prove before the county court of Lunenburg county, by competent
and sufficient testimony, that he is suffering from a wound and dis-
ability equal to a loss of a leg or arm with respect to incapacitating
him from manual labor, and that such wound or disability was con-
tracted and incurred by said Hood in the military service of the
state, and said Hood shall produce to the auditor of public accounts
the certificate of said court showing the proof and testimony afore-
said, and that said court is satisfied as to the truth and correctness
of the same.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
