Chap. 645.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 5, chapter 331, of the acts
of assembly, 1887, extra session, in reference to the publication and distribu-
tion of the code of Virginia.
Approved March 5, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
five of chapter three hundred and thirty-one of the acts of assem-
bly, extra session, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 5. The copies distributed under the preceding section to the sev-
eral public officers (except members of the general assembly) and
the institutions of the state shall remain the property of the state,
and each of the said public officers shall deliver the copy held by
him to the clerk of the county court of his county within thirty
days from the end of his official] term, and upon his failure so to do
he shall be subject toa fine of not more than ten dollars, which
may be imposed by the county court on a rule to show cause. The
superintendent of, public printing, before distributing the copies to
such officers and institutions, shall cause to be distinctly and dura-
bly stamped on the outside of each lid of every copy so distributed
the coat-of-arms of Virginia, and the following words, in large let-
ters, encircling the same: “ Property of the state; to be delivered to
your successor in office.”’
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
