Chap. 511.—An ACT for the protection of fish in the waters of Back bay, in the
county of Princess Anne.
Approved March 1, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful for any person to catch and offer for sale fish caught
from the waters of Back bay or its tributaries between the first day
of April and the twenty-fifth day of October of each year.
2. That it shall be unlawful for any person to leave his landing or
mooring before sunrise for the purpose of fishing, and to fish after
sunset or in the night-time.
3. Provided that nothing in this act shall be so construed to pro-
hibit citizens from fishing at any time or in any way for the use of
their own families.
4. All persons offending against this act shall be guilty of a mis-
demeanor, and shall be fined for the first offence not less than ten
dollars nor more than thirty dollars, and for the second offence shall
forfeit his boat and seine, which shall be sold by the sheriff under
order of the county court of said county, and be fined not less than
twenty nor more than fifty dollars. One-half of the fine and of the
proceeds of property forfeited shall go to the informer and the bal-
ance to the public free schools in the district in which the offence
was committed.
5. This act shall be in force on and after the first day of April,
eighteen hundred and ninety-four.
