Chap. 471.—An ACT toamend and re-enact section 3675 of the code of Virginia,
in reference to extorting money, &c., by threats.
Approved February 27, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
thirty-six hundred and seventy-five be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
§ 3675. Extorting money, and so forth, by threats; how punished.
If any person threaten injury to the character, person or property of
another person, or accuse him of any offence, and thereby extort
money, property or pecuniary benefit, or any note, bond, or other evi-
dence of debt from him or any other person, he shall be confined in
the penitentiary not less than three nor more than five years, or, in
the discretion of the jury, be confined in jail not exceeding one year
and fined not exceeding one thousand dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
