Chap. 41.—An ACT to amend the first section of acts of 1878-’79, to incorporate
the town of Columbia, in Fluvanna county.
Approved January 22, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
one of chapter two hundred and thirty-eight of the acts of assembly,
eighteen hundred and seventy-eight and eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine, entitled an act to incorporate the town of Columbia,
in Fluvanna county, approved March third, eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
town of Columbia, in the county of Fluvanna, as the same has here-
tofore been or may hereafter be laid off into lots, streets and alleys,
shall be, and the same is hereby, made a town corporate, by the
name of the town of Columbia; and by that name shall have and
exercise the powers conferred upon towns by the fifty-fourth chapter
of the code of Virginia (edition of eighteen hundred and seventy-
three), and be subject to all the provisions of said code, and all laws
now in force, or which may hereafter be enacted, in reference to the
government of towns of less than five thousand inhabitants, so far as
the same are not inconsistent with the provisions of this act; but no
citizen of said corporation shall be required to work on the public
roads nor be required to pay any road tax to the county, nor shall
there be any county road tax imposed upun any property within the
corporate limits thereof as now fixed by law, provided said corpora-
tion shall keep its streets and alleys in repair. :
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
