Chap. 335.—An ACT to incorporate the Trustees of the Valley Baptist associa-
tion of Virginia.
Approved February 22, 1804.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Charles
S. Schaeffer, B. F. Fox, W. T. Johnson, Felix Johnson, Moses E.
Johnson, Elkana Scott and William Poindexter, and their successors,
be, and they are hereby, made a body corporate under the name of
“Trustees of the Valley Baptist association of Virginia.”
2. The successors of said incorporators, whenever a vacancy shall
occur, may be chosen by the Valley Baptist association of Virginia
at a regular meeting thereof, and in default of such choice, within
fifteen months after the vacancy occurs, the incorporators and their
acting successors may fill the vacancy.
3. Said body corporate may take and hold all such estate, property
and effects as may be acquired by gift, purchase, devise or bequest,
to aid and enable the Valley Baptist association of Virginia to un-
dertake and carry on the work of christian education, of foreign and
domestic missions, of the publication of such books, tracts and
papers as are connected with the diffusion of religious literature and
learning, work for the relief of indigent ministers and the widows
and children of deceased ministers, and the building and support-
ing churches of their faith and worship in the United States, and of
loaning or donating money and other funds to aid in building
churches and schools, and promoting the objects aforesaid.
4. All the estate, property and effects that shall be acquired by
said trustees, and their successors, shall be held, used and disposed
of according to the direction of the Valley Baptist association of
Virginia: provided that the property, real and personal, held or
possessed by said corporation at one time shall never exceed two
million dollars.
5. If the Valley Baptist association shall establish any committees,
boards or agencies for any of the purposes recited in section three
of this act, the same shall be held and deemed to be branches of
this corporation, and if any gift, grant, devise or bequest shall be
made to the trustees of the Valley Baptist association of Virginia,
or to any of such committees, boards or agencies, for any of the uses
or purposes contemplated by this act, the same shall be good and
effectual to pass to such uses or purposes, and to said corporation
when the donor, grantor, bargainer or testator shall name the corpo-
ration, or such board, committee or agency in general terms or in
such terms as identify the object of the gift, grant or devise.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
