Chap. 327.—An ACT for the better protection of game in the county of Nanse-
mond.
Approved February 2I, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
not be lawful for any person to kill or capture rabbits or hares in
the county of Nansemond between the first day of March and the
fifteenth day of October, and possession shall be prima facie evi-
dence of guilt.
2. That any person violating this act, or any other act heretofore
enacted concerning fish and game in the county of Nansemond,
shal], upon conviction, for the first offence be fined fifty dollars, and
for each subsequent offence one hundred dollars, and imprisoned in
jail until the fine be paid, but not exceeding thirty days. In each
case one-half of the fine shall be paid to the informer.
3. That for the better enforcement of this act, and all other acts
concerning fish and game in the county of Nansemond, it shall be
the duty of the judge of the county court for the county of Nanse-
mond, upon application of the Mount Pleasant fishing club of Suf-
folk, Virginia, to appoint a fish and game commissioner for said
county; to hold office for one year from date of appointment, or
until his successor is chosen. The said commissioner shall, upon
complaint of any party, have the power to summons witnesses, and
if in his discretion he see fit, after hearing evidence, present such
party for indictment and prosecution before the county court.
4, All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby
repealed.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
