CHAP. 651.—An ACT to provide for the working of public roadsin
. the counties of Richmond and Lancaster.
Approved March 8, 1892,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the board of supervisors of the counties of Richmond
and Lancaster be, and they are hereby, directed to levy a
tax of not exceeding fifteen cents on the one hundred dol-
lars of assessed value of property in said counties, respect-
ively, the tax so collected to be used for the working and
keeping in order the public roads of the said counties.
The said boards of supervisors shall have full power to
disburse and expend the funds arising from such levy in
their respective counties in such manner as may seem to
them right and proper for carrying into proper execution
the objects of this act. But said boards of supervisors are
also directed to keep separate the funds collected from
each magisterial district in their respective counties, and
the same shall be all expended in the district in which it
was collected.
2. Every male citizen between the ages of eighteen and
sixty years in the said counties of Richmond and Lancas-
ter are hereby required to perform two days’ work in
every year, of eight hours for each day, on the public roads
in the respective counties in which they live. Any person
failing to perform the work as herein above provided ehall
pay one dollar for each day of such failure, the said sum
to be collected by the treasurer of his county as taxes and
fines are collected, and when collected by said treasurer
the same shall be turned over by him to the road fund of
his county. ,
3. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act
shal] be, and the same are hereby, repealed.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
