CHAP. 566.—An ACT to provide for the working and keeping in
, repair the public roads of Amherst county.
Approved March 1, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That in and for the county of Amherst the board of supervi-
sors is hereby made and constituted a road bvuard, and as
such shall have worked and kept in repair the public roads
of said county, by adopting such rules and regulations as
they may deem proper, expedient, and necessary.
2. The said board of supervisors is empowered and au-
thorized to levy (when it makes its annual county levy) a
road tax not to exceed fifteen cents on the one hundred
dollars’ worth of property, to be collected by the county
treasurer; .but the tax so levied and collected in each dis-
trict shall be used and applied in that respective district
by said road board, except that of the Richmond and Dan-
ville railroad, which shall be divided equally between the
four districts.
3. Said road board is empowered to require all parties
not “road, free’’ under existing laws to work not to exceed
three days on some road in each year, and for failure to
work, after having been notified, each party shall pay a
fine of seventy-five cents a day, to be collected by the road
surveyor, who is empowered to collect the same as taxes
are collected, and who shal! receive therefor a fee of twen-
ty-dive cents, to be paid by the delinquent, in addition to
the road fine, and alJl fines so collected shall be reported
to said board.
4. Said road board shall meet the Wednesday after the
first Tuesday in each month, beginning with the month of
June, eighteen hundred and ninety-two, and for actual
attendance on said board each member shall receive the
sum of two dollars and fifty cents per day.
5. The clerk of the county court shall perform the du-
ties of clerk for said board, who shall receive for his ser-
vices such sum as said board may deem right and proper.
6. Chapter three hundred and seventy-eight of the acts
of eighteen hundred and eighty-nine and eighteen hun-
dred and ninety, approved February twenty-eighth, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety, is hereby repealed.
7. This act shall be in force after July the first, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety-twe.
