Chap. 408.—An ACT for the protection of hares and opossums in
the county of Halifax, Virginia.
Approved February 25, 1835.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be unlawful to kill or capture, or offer for
sale or buy any hare, or rabbit, or opossum within the
county of Halifax between the first day of February and
the fifteenth day of October.
2. If any person violate the preceding section he shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, upon con-
viction thereof before any justice or the county judge of
said county, be fined not less than five nor more than ten
dollars for each offence, and imprisoned in jail till said
fine is paid, but not exceeding thirty days. In each case
one-half of the fine shall be to the informer. In any
prosecution of a person for a violation of the preceding
section, proof of the possession by such person of any
such hare, or rabbit, or opossum, as the case may be, shall
be prima facie evidence of his guilt.
3. This act shal] be in force from its passage.
