Chap. 84.—An ACT to enlarge the Powers of the Mayor and Uouncil
of the Town of Big Lick, in the County of Roanoke, and to provide
for the Better Government of said Town.
Approved February 22, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
unlawful for any person or persons to sell by retail, or in any
quantity less than five gallons, within the corporate limits of
the town of Big Lick, in the county of Roanoke, whiskey,
brandy, wine, or other intoxicating drink, or any admixture
thereof, without having first obtained from the mayor and
council of said town, written permission so to do.
2. Any person violating the preceding section, may be fined
by the mayor of said town, in a sum not exceeding twenty
dollars, for each offence, and may be imprisoned, upon his
order, in the county jail until such fine is paid: provided, the
term of imprisonment shall not exceed thirty days in any
one case. ’
3. The fines so recovered, shall be applied to such corpo-
rate purposes as may be designated by the mayor and
council. | ,
4. This act shall be in force from its passage: provided
however, that it shall not affect any license already granted.
