Chap. 70.—An ACT to incorporate the Charlottesville and Rapidan
ailroad.
Approved February 12, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawftl to open books of subscription in the town of Char-
lottesville, under the direction of A. R. Blakey, John Wood,
Junior, W. C. N. Randolph, V. W. Southail, and R. F. Mason,
or any three of them; at Orange Courthouse, under the di-
rection of John M. Chapman, Thomas P. Wallace, and Alex-
ander Daley; and at Stanardsville, under the direction of
Wyatt S. Beazley, Benjamin Herndon, and Edwin Booton,
or any two of them, for the purpose of receiving subscrip-
tions to an amount not exceeding six hundred thousand dol-
lars, in shares of fifty doJlars each, to constitute a joint capi-
tal stock for constracting a railroad from the town of Char-
lottesville or some point near that town on the Washington
City, Virginia Midland and Great-Southern railroad to Orange
Courthouse, or some point on said road between that village
and Rapidan river. |
‘2. Be it further enacted, That whenever one hundred
thousand dollars of the amount aforesaid shall have been
subscribed, the subscribers, their executors, administrators,
and assigns shall be and they are hereby declared and consti-
tuted a body politic and corporate, under the name and style
of The Charlottesville and Rapidan Railroad Company, and
shall be entitled to all the privileges conferred, and subject
to all the restrictions imposed by the Code of Virginia, edi-
tion eighteen hundred and seventy-three, and acts amenda-
tory thereof, so far as the same are applicable and not incon-
sistent with this act.
3. It shall be lawful to receive subscriptions for construc-
tion of this road in money, labor, land, or material, such as
timber, stone, lumber, or other supplies usually required in
construction of railroads.
4. 1t shall also be lawful to receive subscriptions to stock
of. this company from any connecting railroad company, or
from any mining or manufacturing company which may be
established to operate upon the line of this road in the state
of Virginia and interested in its construction. |
5. 1t shall be lawful for said company to lease its road, or
any part thereof, to any railroad company chartered by the
commonwealth.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
