Chap. 196.—An ACT for the relief of the Sureties of William T. Payne,
late Collector of Aquia Township, Stafford County.
Approved March 27, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the treas-
urer of Stafford county be, and he is hereby authorized and
required, upon the settlement of the judgments for the state
and county taxes, in the name of the commonwealth of Vir-
ginia, against William T. Payne, late collector of Aquia
township, in the county of Stafford, and Alexander Green
and William T. Payne, Senior, his sureties, to receive from
said sureties, in discharge of said judgments, the payment of
the principal, legal interest and costs of collection, abating
therefrom the damages which have been awarded for said de-
fault: provided, that nothing herein contained shall be con-
strued as relieving the said William T. Payne, collector as
aforesaid, from the payment of any portion of said judgments
and damages.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
