Chap. 16.—JOINT RESOLUTION to ascertain the Number of Luna-
tics Confined in the Jails of the Several Counties.
Approved January 26, 1876.
1. Resolved by the House of Delegates (the Senate con-
curring), That the se¢retary ot the commonwealth be in-
structed to ascertain from the clerks of the county courts of
the various counties of this commonwealth, the number of
lunatics in their respective counties, giving name, age, color,
and duration of attack, and stating separately, such as are
confined in jail, and such as are not so confined, and the
character of the insanity of each, and any other information
deemed pertinent by said clerks; and that the secretary of
the commonwealth report to the general assembly the in-
formation so obtained, at as early day as practicable.
2. Resolved, It shall be the duty of the secretary of the
commonwealth to forward to each clerk of the county and
hustings courts of this commonwealth a printed copy of this
joint resolution. Said clerk shall be required to report
within ten days after the reception thereof, and the secre-
tary of the commonwealth shall report to.the general assem-
blv the names of any clerk failing to make such report.
