Chap. 155.—An ACT to Incorporate the Brotherhood of the Protestant
Episcopal Church, in the Diocese of Virginia.
Approved March 18, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Right Reverend F. M. Whittle, Reverend George Woodbridge,
D. N. Walker, A. Y. Stokes, F. R. Baker, and such others as
they may associate with them, are hereby incorporated under
the name and style of The Brotherhood of the Protestant
Episcopal Church, in the, Diocese of Virginia, and by that
name shall have perpetual succession and a common seal; may
sue and be sued; plead and be impleaded; and for uses of said
corporation, may acquire by purchase, gift, or otherwise, real
and personal estate, and manage and dispose of the same: pro-
vided, that the estate so acquired, shall not at any one time
exceed two hundred thousand dollars in value.
2. The object of said corporation shall be the assistance of
tke families of deceased clergymen of the Protestant Episcopal
church, in the diocese of Virginia. ] :
3. The said corporators, a majority of whom may act, shall
have power to adopt a constitution and enact by-laws, not in
conflict with the constitution and laws of this commonwealth,
and to fill the vacancies occurring in their number from time
to time.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
