Chap. 152.—An ACT incorporating the Virginia Christian Missionary
Society.
Approved March 18, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
L. A. Cutler, John B. Cary, J. Z. Tyler, J. L. Maury, William
H. Tyler, Edward T. Powell, Benjamin M. Quarles, D. A.
Snow, C. 8. Lucas, William T. Daniel, George P. Stacy, John
Hunter, Senior, William Roose, and such other persons as are
now or may hereafter be associated with them, shall be and
they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, by
the name and style of The Virginia Christian Missionary
Society—the object of such association being to promote the
spread of the gospel within the limits of the state of Virginia.
2. The said corporation may receive and acquire by pur-
chase, gift, devise, or bequest, money and other property, real
or personal: provided, that it shall not hold or possess at any
one time property of any kind to an amount exceeding two
hundred thousand dollars.
3. The said corporation shall have perpetual succession and
a common seal; may sue and be sued; plead and be impleaded ;
contract and be contracted with; and shall have power to
make or adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules, and regula-
tions for the admission and expulsion of its members, and
their government; the election of its officers, and thé defining
of their duties, and for the safe-keeping and use of its prop-
erty and funds; and from time to time to amend such consti-
tution, and to alter or rescind such by-laws, rules, and regula-
tions; and generally to do every act and thing necessary to
carry into effect this act, or to promote the objects and designs
of the said corporation: provided, the same be not in conflict
ae the constitution and laws of the state or the United
tates.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage, and be subject
to repeal, alteration, or amendment by the general assembly.
