CHAP. 35.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the Ist and 2d sections
of an act entitled an act to provide for the working of the roads
in the counties of Scott, Wise and Buchanan, appr ‘oved March 5,
1877, so as to inelude Gray son, Carroll, Wythe and Tazewell com
ties.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the first and
second sections of an act entitled an act to provide for the
working of roads in the counties of Scott, Wise and Buchanan,
approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 1. Beit enacted by the general assembly, That in the coun-
ties of Scott, Wise, Buchanan, Wythe, Grayson, Carroll and
Tazewell, after the first day of May, eighteen hundred and
seventy-seven, the county court shall appoint surveyors for
each road precinct for the term of two years. Each surveyor
shall designate one or more of his hands, whose duty it shall
be to summon his list of hands to work upon the roads, at such
time and place as said overseer may appoint, and for every such
failure he shall forfeit fifty cents, to be collected as other fines,
and every day that such hand or hands may be employed in
summoning hands shall be deducted from the number of days
he is required to work upon the road. No surveyor shall be
entitled to compensation for his services, but shall be exempt
from serving upon petit juries: provided that no hand or
hands shall be required to work more than ten days in any one
_year on opening any new road.
§ 2. All the provisions of the general road Jaw inconsistent
with this act are hereby repealed as to the counties of Scott.
Wise, Buchanan and Tazewell.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
