Chap. 217.—An ACT to amend and re-cnact section 28 of the act ap-
proved March 26, 1875, preseribtug the powers, duties, and compen-
sation of district officers, and to repeal the 47th chapter, and section
J of chapter 48 of the Code of 1873.

tl. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
twenty-eight of the act approved March twenty-six, eightcen
hundred and seventy-five, entitled an act prescribing the duties,
powers, liabilities, and compensation of district officers. and to
repeal chapter forty-seven, and section first, chapter forty-eight
of the Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, be amended
and re-enacted to read as fellows :
§ 28. The powers and duties of overseer of the poor shall be
such as were prescribed by the laws in force when the consti-
tution was adopted, so far as the same are consistent with this
act, and such as now are or hereafler may be prescribed by
law. The pay and allowances for overseers of the poor shall
be two dollars per day while actually engaged, not to exceed
twenty dollars for each overseer for one year, and the same to
be paid out of the county levy: provided that in the county of
Gioncester the compensation shall not exceed for each overseer
for one year the sum of five dollars.
