Chap. 20,—An ACT to incorporate the Afton Brotherhood, in Nelson
county, to conduct a mutual life insuraiuce business.
Approved January 10, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That J. C. Good-
loe, B. H. Goodloe, W. L. Williams, J. R. Goodloe, C. L. Mar-
tin and A. M. Goodloe, and such other persons as may be asso-
ciated with them, be and they are hereby incorporated, by the
name of the Afton Brotherhood, for the purpose of conducting
a mutual life insurance business, with its principal office at Af-
ton, Nelson county, Virginia, the business to be conducted
by J. C. Goodloe as president, and B. H. Goodloe as secretary,
and they and their successors shall be responsible for the funds
of the company, under such bond and security as may be pre-
scribed by said corporation; said corporation to have all the
general powers and be subject to all the general restrictions
provided by the Code of Virginia, or that may hereafter be en-
acted by the general assembly in regard to such bodies politic
and corporate. .
2. The particular business and object of this corporation
shall be to provide a fund for the benefit of the widows, orphans,
heirs, assigns, legatees, or beneficiaries of a deceased member,
immediately upon proof of such death, by an assessment upon
all the members as specified in their respect've po icies.
3. This act shall be m force from its passage.
