Chap. 191.—An ACT to incorporate the Young Men’s Independent
social Club, No. 1, of the city of Richmond.
Approved March 3, 1879.
Whereas there is a society in the city of Richmond known
as the Young Men’s Independent Social Club, number one;
and whereas it is believed that the interests of the said club
will be better protected by an act of incorporation; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
John Terry Payton, Carr Flemming Goodman, William Moore,
Thomas II. Perry, Henry T. Cooper, James Redd, George John-
son, A. Lynn, Robert Langan, B. Johnson, W. R. Smith, and
such others as are or shall hereafter associate themselves with
them. be and they are hereby created and incorporated, and
made a body politic and corporate, under the name and style
of The Young Men’s Independent Social Club, Number One ;
and by this name they may sue and be sued, plead and be im-
pleaded for. ‘The objects of the Young Men’s Independent
social Club, number one, are to carry forward the cause of
temperance and benevolence in such a complete and effectual
manner that all of its members may receive and enjoy its heal-
ing influences, by visiting the sick, burying the dead, and ad-
ministering to the widows and orphans of the members of the
said Young Men’s Independent Social Club, number one. They
shall have the right to establish branches of the said order in
any or alt une cuunvics, ZtLy or cities iu this state. ‘They shall
have the right to make or use a sea, sud pass ail laws for the
government of the order that do not coutlict wicu tbe laws of
the United States or the state of Virginia.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage
