CHAP. 184.—An ACT to authorize the county court of Giles county
to exempt residents of the town of Newport fron working on the
public roads outside of said town.
Approved March 3, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for the county conrt of Giles county, on the application
of the board of trustees or other proper authorities of the cor-
poration of the town of Newport, in said county, and upon
being satisfied by eullicient preof that the streets of said town
are kept in order by the said town, to exempt for such time as
to said court may seem proper all persons resident within the
corporate limits of said town from working upon the public
roads of the county cutside of said limits.
2. ‘This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 184.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section four of an aet
entitled an act to provide for working the roads and repairing the
bridges in the counties of Pulashi and Wythe.

repairing the bridges in the counties ef Pulaski and Wytae,
approved March twelfth, elehteen hundred and seventy-cight,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
9 4. Theat annually there shail be appoin ated by the said board,
not later than the fourth Saturday in May in each year, one
overseer of roads for each sub-road district, not exceeding six
for any magisterial district, whose term of office shall be for
one year, beginning on the first day of July succeeding his ap-
pointment. Tle shall reside in the district for which he shal! have
been appointed, and shall have charge of the roads of his dis-
trict. If any such overseer refuse 10 serve after being appointed,
or fail to work the roads tm his district when directed by the
road commissioner, be shall be liable to a fine on presentment
by the grand jury. not exceeding twenty dollars, but any per-
son, after being overseer for two consecutive years, may give
up his office on producing a certificate to the board from the
road commisioner, or other satisfactory evidence that the roads
in his district are in proper order, and he shall not, within two
years thereafter, be appointed overseer without his consent.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
