Chap. 178.—An ACT in relation to the records of Alexandria county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the board
of supervisors of Alexandria county be and they are hereby
authorized, if in their judgment it is necessary and propor, ancl
the expense thereof to said county be not too great, to contract
witn the clerk of the county court of said county for the copy.

Alexandria county, that may be found in the deed-books which
were placed in the custody of the clerk of the corporation court
of the city of Alexandria, under and by virtue of an act ap-
proved April ninth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, entitled
an act in relation to the records of Alexandria county.
2. The books into which such deeds may be so copied shall
be placed in the custody of the clerk of the county court of
said county, and kept in the clerk’s office thereof, and a copy
from any such book, attested by the clerk of the said county
court, may be admitted in evidence in leu of the original, and
all the provisions of section five of chapter one hundred and
seventy-two of the Code of Virginia of eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, shall be applicable to such copy.
3d. The deeds copied into such books, under this act, shall be
indexed by the clerk of said county court in the mode pre-
scribed by law, and shall have the same force and effect as to
creditors and purchasers in all respects as they would have had
if such books were those in which the deeds bad been originally
recorded.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage,
