Chap. 174.-An ACT to furnish convict labor to work on the public
roads of Wythe county.
Approved March 3, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the governor is hereby authorized to furnish to the board of
supervisors of Wythe county thirty able-bodied convicts, such
as can be spared from the workshops of the penitentiary, and
without interfering with previously made contracts, to work on
all the public roads in Wythe county, under such conditions as
to safe-keeping as the governor and the said board of super-
visors may agree upon in the repair of said roads. The said
convicts shall be fed. clothed, and guarded by the county of
Wythe whilst at work for the said board of supervisors of
Wythe county: provided, that before said convicts are fur-
nished to said board of supervisors of Wythe county, said
board shall make an appropriation to be levied upon the county
of Wythe of a sum sufficient to pay the expenses of feeding,
clothing, guarding, and medical treatment, and to provide for
the transportation to and from the penitentiary, and to secure
their safe-keeping and return to the penitentiary.
2. ‘This act shall be in force from its passage.
