Chap. 11.—An ACT to incorporate the Marion Reading Club of
Marion, Smyth county,
Approved January 10, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
D.C. Miller, A. P. Cole, R. EE. Brown, G. il. Fudge, G. W.
Richardson, J. E. Moore, J. F. Pendleton, Jr., J. 8S. Pendleton,
W. C. Pendleton, IK. Hl. Copenhaur, Edeur L[faller, W. P.
Francis, Park Phipps, and Charles Murray, aud such other per-
sons as are now associated asthe Marion Reading Club, or may
hereafter become associated with them, are hereby constituted
a body corporate, by the name of the Marion Reading Club, to
be located in the town of Marion, Smyth county, for the pur-
pose of promoting social intercourse, and for the establishment
of a reading room for the use of its members.
2. The said eorporation shall have power to make and adopt
a constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admis-
sion and expulsion of its members and their government, the
election of its officers, and to define their duties, and for the safe-
keeping and protection of its property and funds, to collect all
dues, and from time to time to alter or repeal such constitution,
by-laws, rules and revulations: provided that the sane be not
inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the United States
or of the state of Vireinia.
3. The said corporation may purchase and hold, lease or rent
any real or personal estate: provided that they shall not hold
real estate exceeding in value five thousand dollars.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage, and be subject
to amendment, alteration or modification, at the pleasure of the
general assembly.
