CHAP. 353.—An ACT to incorporate the Southwest land and im-
provement company.
Approved February 3, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That C. C. Henkel, J. Bell Bigger, T. K. Harnesberger, C.
H. Urner, M. B. Rowe, J. N. Brenaman, T. W. Harrison, J.
T. Loving, Charles P. Jones, and R. W. Moore, or such of
them as may accept the provisions of this act, their asso-
ciates and successors, be, and they are hereby, incorpo-
rated and made a body politic under the name and style
of the “ Southwest land and improvement company,” and
by that name shall be known in law, and as such are au-
thorized and empowered to purchase, acquire, hold, and
convey lands and interests in lands in the counties of
Rockbridge, Alleghany, Botetourt, Roanoke, Montgomery,
Pulaski, Wythe, Giles, Tazewell, Smyth, Washington, Rus-
sell, Scott, Wise, and Lee, or elsewhere, and to erect dwell-
ings, stores, or other buildings thereon, and to sell or lease
the same, and to otherwise develop said lands: provided,
that in no one county shall the said company at one time
hold more than twenty-five thousand acres.
2. The capital stock of said company shall not be less
than three thousand dollars nor more than twenty-five
thousand dollars, divided into shares of one hundred dol-
lars each.
3. It shall be lawful for said company to subscribe for
and hold the shares of stock and bonds of any corpora-
tion, and for any corporation to acquire, guarantee, or hold
the shares of stock or bonds of the said company.
4. No stockholder shall be held liable on account of his
stock further than for any unpaid subscription he may
owe thereon.
5. All taxes due the commonwealth by said company
shall be paid in lawful money and not in coupons.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CuHuap. 354.—An ACT to enable the town of Clifton Forge, in the
county of Alleghany, to sell and convey a certain lot therein
and to confirm and make valid the title of another lot therein.
Approved February 24, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the council of the town of Clifton Forge,in the county
of Alleghany, be, and is hereby,empowered to sell and
convey, by proper deed, lot number one of section five in
the plan of said town, and the title of said town to lot
number two of section five in said plan is hereby. confirmed
abd made valid.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
